…To Spend 6 Months In Male Prison
Controversial cross-dresser Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has finally resolved the controversy about whether he is a male or female.
Bobrisky, who was on Friday sentenced to six months imprisonment without an option fine for abusing the Nigerian currency – naira, ended the controversy about his gender at the Federal High Court in Lagos.
He clarified his status just before Justice Abimbola Awogboro sentenced him for naira abuse.
Nigerian Current recalls that Bobrisky is generally believed to have been born a male.
But he adopted cross-dressing sometime after becoming an adult and began identifying as a female with the pronouns “she” and “her”.
He also began posting videos on social media hinting that he may have undergone buttock enhancement and breast lift surgery.
Bobrisky further sparked controversy on March 25 when he won the “Best Dressed Woman” award at the world premiere of “Ajanaku: Beast of Two Worlds” produced by actress Eniola Ajao.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Thursday, April 4, filed a six-count charge of money laundering and abuse of naira against him.
On Friday, April 5, it arraigned Bobrisky on only the abuse of the naira charge. The agency prayed the court to dismiss the money laundering charge.
The court granted the EFCC’s prayer.
Bobrisky pleaded guilty to the naira abuse charge and promised to turn a new leaf.
The court convicted him and adjourned for judgment.
At the resumption of proceedings Friday, and before the sentence, Justice Abimbola asked Bobrisky about his gender.
Bobrisky replied: “I am a man.”
The judge sentenced the convict to six months imprisonment without an option fine.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro said the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others fond of abusing and mutilating the naira.
The judge ruled that the jail term commences on March 24, 2024, the day of his arrest.
