Two sales representatives on Friday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly stealing bottles of assorted wine worth over one million Naira from their employer.
The defendants, Balikis Kadiri, 25, and Timileyin Omotosho, 24, have no fixed address.
They are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing but pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court that the defendants and others at large committed the offences sometime in February at No. 43, Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos.
Ekhueorohan alleged that the defendants stole one bottle of Ace of Spade wine worth N77I,000 and sixteen bottles of assorted red wine, all valued at N236,000.
The prosecutor said that that the wine belonged to one Mr Chimezie Okeke.
He said that the complainant, Okeke, discovered the theft when he took stock of items in his store.
The alleged offences contravene Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Magistrate, Mr Ganiyu Tiamiyu, granted each of the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He ordered that the sureties must have their addresses verified by the court, and adjourned the case until April 4, for mention.
