The Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule has received a Special Award and Recognition as the Most Investment-Friendly Governor at the Local Government Economic Summit held in Abuja, recently.

Speaking at the event, the governor advised Nigerians to begin to amplify the many good things happening in the country rather than remain in mutual suspicion and distrust of government and politicians.

Represented at the event by the Director General, Strategic Communication Mr. Yakubu Lamai, the governor urged the leaders at the local government level to encourage citizens to hold government to account through promoting a system of citizen activism.

The Nasarawa governor was one of the earliest governors to grant full financial autonomy to local governments in the state, citing that the people themselves need to be involved in politics and therefore use the opportunity to also hold their leaders to account.

The Summit with the theme: Empowering the rural poor in Nigeria’s post subsidy regime: The role of Organised Labour Union, the micro-finance bank and the local government’ ended with a communique for accountability and transparency in governance so as to positively affect the poor in rural areas.

Meanwhile, the governor has been lauded by opposition parties in the state.  Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu, the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), and Mohammed Lawal Nalado, the National Chairman of Accord Party both praised the governor for what they called his opening the eyes of his people by showing them a new vision.

Both Nwosu and Nalado said by his impressive performance, Gov Sule is showing a new vision, not only of the Nasarawa State of today, but of tomorrow which unborn generations will enjoy in the future.
