United States President Joe Biden has declared his intention to run for a second term in office in 2024.
This was made in a video released by his team on Tuesday.
Biden said next year’s contest is against Republican extremism, noting that he needs more time to fully realise his vow to restore the nationâs character.
The 80-year-old is the nationâs oldest president and the oldest to contest for office.
âWhen I ran for president four years ago, I said we are in a battle for the soul of America. And we still are,â he said in the video.
âThe question we are facing is whether in the years ahead we have more freedom or less freedom. More rights or fewer.
âI know what I want the answer to be and I think you do too. This is not a time to be complacent. Thatâs why Iâm running for reelection.â
With this declaration, Biden may likely be facing Donald Trump, who had earlier declared his intention to for the White House.
