The governorship candidate of the Labour Party(LP) Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour has lost his polling unit 045 to the incumbent and candidate of All Progressives Congress(APC), Governor Babajide Sanwo- Olu in the governorship election.
The results were announced by the Presiding Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC ), Abiodun Daniel.
The presiding officer declared that Sanwo Olu polled 29 votes to defeat Rhodes Vivour who scored 18 and Peoples Democratic Candidate,(PDP), Olajide Adediran (Jandor) scored 2 votes in the polling unit 045, Anifowoshe ward in Ikeja.
It was observed that the turnout of the election was very poor compare to the presidential election that was held on February 25.
Speaking to Nigerian Current, the agent of the Labour Party, Mr Patrick, Achbong said the turnout was not interesting because what happened in the presidential election was disappointing because a lot of people believe their votes didn’t count based on the outcome of the exercise.
When asked about the reason for the low performance of his party, he said the All Progressives Congress(APC) engaged in votes by buying and people demanded for money before they can vote for them.
The Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) agent, Balogun Oluwashina alleged that the ruling party buy votes and bribed the electorates to cast votes in their favour.
“ I don’t have anything to say about the results. My observation is that the APC are buying votes and I even saw one of their members bribing electorates to vote for them”
The agent of APC, Alhaji Mustapha Owolabi Sulaiman, said they are very happy with the results and it was just as they had anticipated.
When asked about his views on the low turnout, he said is because a lot of actors can cause it but chiefly because the majority of the people have relocated.
The total number of registered voters was 421, and the accredited voters were 50.
