The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) says it will declare a lecture-free day across tertiary institutions to express its reservation over non-payment of its salaries.
This was disclosed by the union chairman of the University of Ilorin chapter, Moyosore Ajao
Ajao said the planned lecture-free day, wonât be on the same day for all institutions.
âIt wonât be at the same time. Every branch will do its own on a different day. Itâs just within the campus. Itâs just making a statement,â he said.
ASUU suspended its eight-month strike in October following the rulings of the national industrial court and which was  sustained by the court of appeal.
Prior to the suspension of the strike, ASUU engaged in a series of negotiations with the federal government which failed to yield any positive results. As a result, the federal government threatened to invoke the no work, no payâ policy on the lecturers- a decision the government later said would be reconsidered
But after the suspension of the strike, the lecturers were paid half of their October salary. This development did not go down well with the leadership of the union.
Commenting on the development, head of press and public relations , federal ministry of labor and employment, Olajide Oshundun said ASUU members were paid their October salary pro-rata and not half salary as reported.
