Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike and his supporters say they will not participate in the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) presidential campaign until the national president, Iyorchia Ayu resigns.
This development came after meeting that was held on Wednesday in Rivers State.
Reading out the communique after the meeting , PDP Chieftain, Bode George said the campaign council list released by the party and putting Wike’s name as a member is “putting the cart before the horse”
“The published presidential campaign council list translates to putting the cart before horse, the pertinent issue remains the Ayu leadership,” George said.
“We therefore resolve that senator Iyorchia Ayu resigns as the national chairman for an acting chairman of southern Nigeria extraction.
“We resolved not to participate in the campaign council in whatever capacity until the resignation of Dr Iyorchia Ayu.”
Former Vice President Abubakar Atiku is the Presidential candidate of the party.
The party has been in crisis since the emergence of its presidential candidate and subsequent nomination of Ifeanyi Okowa, governor of Delta state as his running mate.
There are have been call from some PDP stakeholders including , Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo; Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue; George, Jerry Gana, former minister of information, that the national president of the party should resign for peace to reign.
