The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar has declared July 9 as Eid-el-Kabir

Eid-el-Kabir is an Islamic festival where Muslim faithful slaughter ram as a sacrifice.

Eid-el-Kabir or Eid-el-Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s readiness to sacrifice his only son as directed by almighty Allah to demonstrate his dedication.

The celebration is the second significant festival in Islam and it comes 71 days after marking the end of Ramadan.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday evening by the National Moonsighting Committee, the sultan urged Muslims to intensify prayers during the period.

“Eidul Adha will be on Saturday, 10th Zul-Hijjah 1443H (9th July 2022) In Sha Allah,” the statement reads.

“His Eminence, The Sultan, hereby calls upon the Muslim Ummah to intensify efforts in acts of worship during the first ten days of the blessed month of Zul-Hijjah and also pray for peace, stability and progress of country.”
