Ademola Adeleke Wins PDP Faction Governorship Primary

Senator Ademola Adeleke has been declared winner of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship primary election held on Tuesday.

Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the deputy governor of Bayelsa state and returning officer, declared Adeleke the winner of the election.

Ewhrudjakpo said Adeleke said 1916 delegated took part in the exercise while Adeleke polled 1887 votes to defeat other contenders in the race.

Dotun Babayemi, Akinbode Fatai and Akin Ogunbiyi each had no  vote while Bamidele  Adeleke polled one vote and Sanya Omirin had four votes respectively.

Adeleke belongs to the faction of the PDP backed by the National Working Committee.

In a related development, another faction of the party led by Wale Ojo held a parallel primary election which was attended by former governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Olusola Obada and Shuaib Oyedoku.

At the parallel election, Babayemi was declared the winner

Announcing the result at WOCDIF, the Chief Returning Officer, Adelani Ajanaku said Babayemi won with 1, 781 votes.

Reacting to the parallel election, Ewhrudjakpo said that the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) did not recognize the exercise conducted by the Oyinlola faction.

The governorship election is scheduled to hold on July 16.
