The  Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, (IPMAN),  vice-president,Abubakar Maigandi, say premium motor spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol will be available from Wednesday.

Maigandi stated this on Tuesday while speaking as a guest ib Newsday, a news programme on Arise TV.

“The government and the NNPC is (sic) on it,” he said.

“There is no way we can sell those contaminated because it will affect motorists.

“But…car owners should stop panic-buying. By God’s grace, today or tomorrow, the product will be available nationwide.”

Nigerians started noticing queues at filling stations across the country from Sunday .

By Monday, the queues extended across the cities and citizens were scrambling to buy fuel at the filling stations

A monitoring exercise carried out by this reporter in Ikeja, Gbagada, 7up, saw some fillings station sealed while others that are opened had a long queue of vehicles waiting to get petrol.

According to sources, the scarcity of fuel currently experienced is a result of the efforts of the regulators to recall contaminated imported petroleum products.

The scarcity currently witnessed was said to be due to efforts of the regulators to recall contaminated imported petroleum products.

Sources said most of the imported petrol under the  Direct Sale, Direct Purchase (DSDP) contract through Litasco, an international marketing and trading company of LUKOIL, had a high content of methanol and Ethanol, which are outside the official specification of Nigeria’s petrol.

Already there are reports and video circulating online that adulterated petrol purchased from filling stations are damaging the motorists’ cars and motcyle engines.

When asked who was to be held responsible, Maigandi said IPMAN buys its product through NNPC and private depots.

According to him, in every business sometimes “there must an issue and this has been already understanding (sic) without many damages”.
