The All Progressives Congress(APC) has announced the suspension of its party congresses indefinitely.
The party had earlier scheduled July 24 for its ward congresses, local governments congresses on August 14, and state congresses on September 18.
But in a letter dated July 6 to the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the ruling party informed the commission of its plan to postpone the congresses.
The letter which was signed by the chairman caretaker/extraordinary convention planning committee, Mai Mala Buni and its secretary, John Akpanudoedehe was said to be in fulfilment of the Electoral Act.(2010)
“We refer to our letter reference number APC/NHDQ/INEC/19/021/20, dated 10, June, 2021, on the above subject and wish to inform the commission that the party has rescheduled its congresses and national convention to a later date which will be communicated to you,” the CECPC said.
“This serves as a formal notification pursuant to the provisions of section 85 of the Electoral Act (2010) as amended.
“While hoping to receive your cooperation, please accept the assurance of my highest esteem.”
With this development, the ruling party national congress scheduled to hold in October has been postponed.
