The former Commissioner for  Home Affairs in Lagos State, Abdulateef AbdulHakem has enjoined Muslims to imbibe the culture of reading the Holy  Quran and striving to understand its meanings.

Abdulhakeem stated this on Saturday during a Ramadan lecture with the theme:  Purification of the Heart, Mind and Soul Family Iftar  Tour- Discover The Inner Dimensions of Ramadan organized by ABDULLAHSPLACE   – an Islamic  Montessori school in Lagos.

The Islamic cleric advised Muslims to be thankful to Allah for his mercy and strength and for giving mankind the ability to breathe without charging for it.

He listed seven duties the Muslim ummah owes to Holy  Quran. They include the ability to learn the holy Quran, read it and learn the translations.

Other duties include:   to follow the teaching and messages in the holy book, memorize the wordings,  teaching and preaching it to others.

Contributing, Ustadh Abubakar Ismail also known as Al-Balagee said Ramadan is the month of charity, kindness and as such it is important to extend hands of generosity to the needy just as Prophet  Muhammed (PBuH) used to break his fast with the poor.
