The Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) on Wednesday embarked on a nationwide protest against the bill seeking to move the national minimum wage from exclusive legislative list to a concurrent list .
The Bill which was sponsored by Garba Datti, lawmaker representing Sabon Gari Federal constituency has passed first and second reading in the house of representatives.
According to Datti, the Bill would allow both the Federal and state government to freely negotiate the minimum wage with their workers in line with the nations federal system.
But , the unions in different placard messages said the Bill is wage theft and crimes again Nigerians workers and humanity.
The NLC President, Ayuba Wabba expressed opposition to the Bill saying workers will not be allowed “ hard fought right which are global standard to be bastardized by opportunistic and narrow minded politicians.”
When the protesters marched to the national assembly, they presented the letter of protest to both representatives of the Senate President, Sabi Abdullahi and that of the House of Representatives, Ado Doguwa
Responding , Hon Doguwa assured the protesters that the house will give listening ears to the concerns of the workers.
