Yakubu
The National Assembly has given a nod to the nomination of Prof Mahmood Yakubu as the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
President Muhammadu Buhari had a week ago requested for the assembly to confirm him for a second term and final term.
Yakubu was first appointed INEC chairman in November 2015 taking over from Prof Attahiru Jega, who supervised the 2015 general election.
His confirmation was sequel to the presentation of the report of the Senate committee on INEC.
Senator Kabiru Gaya, chairman of the committee, said “The nominee displayed (a) high level of intelligence. He is not affiliated to any political party and has never participated in any political campaign.
“The nominee also meets all the requirements for this position.”
Some senators lauded the president for reappointing Yakubu and commended him for a job well done in previous elections.
