The Federal Government has lifted the ban on Emirates Airlines from operating in Nigeria just as the United Arab Emirate has agreed to be issuing visas to Nigerians.
The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika had on September 18 announced the ban of Emirates flights to Nigeria.
In a tweet statement on Wednesday by the Minister, Sirika said “UAE has written to state that they agree to issue visas to Nigerians, consequently a decision has been reached to allow Emirates to fly into Nigeria.”
The Minister added that the lifting of the visa restriction was a condition for Nigeria to allow Emirates Airlines operations in Nigeria. “Commencement if the Visa issuance is a condition precedent. Please bear with this unusual situation. Many thanks”, he tweeted.
The Federal Government had earlier vowed to enforce the principle of reciprocity in granting permission to airlines to resume operations.
Sirika said it was necessary for Nigeria to implement the principle of reciprocity to all countries that had banned flights from Nigeria.
