The Oranmiyan Dynasty Organisation (ODORG), has called for a strong synergy among the Yoruba leaders and the people, at large, so as to form a strong, impenetrable alliance that would lead to the development of the race
Malaysia based businessman and Convener of Oranmiyan Dynasty Organisation, (ODORG) a Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Hon Jimoh Ibrahim, dropped this hint against the backdrop of rising political developments ahead of the 2023 presidential election.
Ibrahim, who is also the CEO of Nish Logistics Global and Shipment Services, a fledgling clearing and forwarding company with headquarters in Malaysia, commended the former Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, for joining the league of northern elites canvassing for power to shift to the South in 2023.
According to Ibrahim, the position of the former governor, Yari, is a clear indication that there are highly progressive and patriotic people in the North, who have unflinching belief in the unity of the country, and that Yari is one of those leaders.
Yari had in a chat with journalists recently, posited that, with President Muhammadu Buhari, serving out his second term in 2023, power should automatically return to the South in the spirit of rotational presidency that has become a silent convention in Nigeria.
In a statement issued in Malaysia and forwarded to Nigerian press, the ODORG Convener, said it had always been his ardent conviction that the presidency can only return to the South with unity among the Yoruba people, matched with wide consultations across the North.
“With this statement coming from one of the revered leaders in the North, his Excellency Abdulaziz Yari, our fears in the South are gradually being allayed. All we are left with is to put our house in order and work towards a solid synergy that would produce a Yoruba president, come 2023
“If you look at the political configuration of this country, one would discern that, in terms of numerical strength and voting, the North enjoys better leverage than the South. So, I am one of the southerners who believed that the South has dimmed and remote chances with North still struggling to grab the presidency in APC in 2023, until recent positive developments.
“Politics is about consultations and concession. When you are contesting against a stronger political side in politics, the issue of consultation becomes a better instrument to deploy. So, the South must consult more, unite more and rally support for their political leaders, rather than relying solely on the rotational principle that had no legal fecundity.
“With this statement from Yari and the one earlier made by the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, I believe that our northern compatriots are beginning to see things from the same spectrum like those of us from the South.
“The unity of this country is very important and the principle of rotational presidency remains one of the fulcrums on which it is anchored, if the political practice is sustained faithfully like we are trying to do.
“We commend Governor Yari for displaying statesmanship by viewing the highly inflammable issue from a broader perspective, which borders on our unity, and we are grateful to him.”
“We charge the PDP leaders in the South to make similar request from their compatriots in the North, so that the country can return to the 1999 era when major political parties picked their presidential candidates from the South for the rotational presidency to become a norm,” he stressed.
At this time when other tribes are busy strategizing on how to tap from the coming political gains that would emerge with the completion of tenure of incumbent President Mohammadu Buhari, ODORG urged the Yoruba to engage in a thorough house cleansing that would put the race on a balance towards tapping bountifully from the coming dispensation.
“We in the Oranmiyan Dynasty Organisation and indeed, Yoruba in diaspora, are totally opposed to any dressing down of our political icons and as such, call for a ceasefire forthwith. As a race, Yoruba have carved a political niche for herself over time, hence, all political discords should be put aside for now, while we move ahead to our political gains in the coming dispensation in one accord,” he said.
The Oranmiyan Dynasty Organisation, Ibrahim said, was formed to revamp the dwindling agricultural feat of the south west Nigeria as well as provide low cost housing for sundry disadvantaged Nigerians, yearning for shelter.
The group, it was learnt, is also concerned about the dwindling state of the health and educational sectors of the south west, with a view to sanitising and revamping them through supports and collaborations.
