A Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps officer attached to a senatorial aspirant in Imo North Senatorial District (Okigwe Zone) Hon. Ndubuisi Emenike, has shot his principal to death.
The incident happened on Sunday evening in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
The Imo North Senatorial District seat in the Senate became vacant following the demise of the occupant, Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu of the All Progressive Congress on December, 18, 2019.
Hon. Emenike who was re-contesting for the vacant seat under the same umbrella he used in the general election, the Action Alliance (AA), was in Isiala Mbano for campaign when he met his death.
Report said the curtains had dropped on the event, and the Senatorial aspirant was about to leave when the security operative attached to him accidentally shot at him.
Emenike, popularly called Ototonwa was said to have been rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, where doctors made futile efforts to save him from death.
The identity of his killer who was said to have worked with him for long was not known as at press time.
