Wife of the national leader of the All Progressive Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Remi, is in the eyes of a storm as the Centre for Anti-Corruption and Open Leadership, CACOL, has come heavily on her over comment she made during the screening of a ministerial nominee, Mr. Babatunde Fashola.
âDuring your first tenure, I didnât get any chance to give employment letters to my constituents. So, when you get there this time, remember us. We all (senators) need slots,â the Senator, representing Lagos Central had told Fashola at the screening exercise.
The comment, however, has drawn Senator Remi backlash with CACOL, a civil society organisation weighing in on the matter.
In an interview with Punchng.com, the groupâs Executive Director, Debo Adeniran, hit out at the former Lagos first lady insinuating that she must have been using her position to corruptly enrich herself and called for her investigation.
âIf Senator Remi Tinubu says the ministers should reserve employment slots in the ministries for the senators, that is a demand for bribery because it is the same senators that are supposed to carry out oversight functions on these ministries, departments and agencies.
âIf they are given slots, it means they want their agents in the MDAs and that would be tantamount to asking for a share of whatever comes to that ministry, and that is not acceptable.
âWe make bold to say that Senator Tinubu should be probed to find out what has been the underlining factor to her previous activities on the MDAs and the committees that she must have chaired.â
