Reports have surfaced that there was an emergency meeting by CAF executive soon after DR Congo walloped Zimbabwe 4-0 in their last group A game to book qualification to the second round, a Madagascar publication said.
It said the lid on the crime was blown off by an Egyptian bank saying “A large sum of money was supposed to be transferred into the bank of the Zimbabwean goalkeeper but the transaction was not completed after an Egyptian bank raised the red flag and reportedly declined to handle the issue.”
Recall that CAF president, Ahmad Ahmad, hails from Madagascar. The Indian Ocean Islanders, who are having a fairytale tournament, are scheduled to face DR Congo on Sunday in a second round match. However, if CAF invalidates the controversy result, Madagascar will walk into the quarter-final without kicking a ball.
