Ekiti Assembly Bars Former Deputy Speaker from Plenary

Former Deputy Speaker of the Ekiti state house of assembly, Rt Hon. Segun Adewunmi has been barred from plenary and other oversight activities of the House of Assembly.

The Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeniran Alagbada who announced this decision said it was be cause the member had failed to comply with House rules of engagement on three consecutive occasions.

His suspension is expected to last for the next six weeks.

Earlier, the Speaker read out letters from three suspended members, Rt. Hon. Adeshina Animashaun, Hon Dare Pelemo and Hon. Samuel Jeje who all pleaded with the leadership of the house to repeal their suspension.

Also the  Ekiti state house of Assembly has repealed the Ekiti state official slogan of 2014 and re-enacted the official slogan of 2011.

The amendment to the bill sponsored by the Ekiti state government scaled through the first, second and third reading and implies that the state would now be addressed as the land of Honour and no longer as Fountain of Knowledge.

In the debate at the second reading, leader of the House, Hon Gboyega Aribisogan, Hon. Wale Ayeni aligned with the motion saying that Ekitis around the world were people of Honour and integrity.

Howbeit, Hon Fajana Ojo Ade and Hon. Anifowoshe Badejo who also agreed to the change of slogans raised concerns about the frequent changes which would attract certain costs.

The state logo however remains the same
