The Nigeria Air Force, NAF, dealt a major blow to the armed bandits terrorising citizens in Zamfara State over the weekend. Dozens of the bandits were killed as NAF launched air strikes on their hideouts.

Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, NAF Director of Public Relations, disclosed this in a statement released in Abuja on Sunday, saying the strikes were carried out after intelligence platforms established the presence of the bandits in the areas.

“The Air Task Force (ATF) for Operation DIRAN MIKIYA has successfully destroyed an armed bandits’ logistics base at Ajia and neutralized dozens of armed bandits at Ajia and Wonaka in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State,” the NAF spokesman said in the statement.

The Air Task Force, he further disclosed, dispatched a Nigerian Air Force Alpha Jet, supported by an Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance platform, to attack the compound, scoring accurate strikes on the target and causing it to erupt into flames. The inferno engulfed the structures and resulted in the neutralization of some of the bandits.

A video of the operation, shown by Channels Television, on Sunday, showed few survivors fleeing the vicinity of the target area only to meet their waterloo in follow-on attacks.

Others, who managed to escape the area, were tracked to Wonaka and equally neutralized, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola further revealed in the statement.
