President Buhari has reacted to the allegations that some powerful cabals have hijacked his government
Reacting, the president challenged those making the allegations to substantiate their claims
Recall that the first lady, Aisha Buhari, has also made repeated claims about some cabals in his husbandâs administration
President Muhammadu Buhari said the allegation of Aisha, his wife, and others that his government is being frustrated by some powerful people popularly referred to as âcabalâ.
The wife of the president has, on several occasions, said a few people are frustrating the president’s effort to perform and grow the nation beyond how he met it.
Speaking at a leadership summit in Abuja earlier in the month, Aisha allegedly challenged Nigerians to fight the âtwo or three people who have dominated this governmentâ.
âOur votes were 15.4 million in the last elections and after that only for us to be dominated by two people⊠this is totally unacceptable,â TheCable quoted the presidentâs wife to have said.
âIf 15.4 million people can bring in a government and only for the government to be dominated by two people or three people, where are the men of Nigeria? Where are the Nigerian men? What are you doing? Instead of them to come together and fight them, they keep visiting them one after the other licking their shoes (Iâm sorry to use those words).â
In an interview with the Voice of America (Hausa service), President Buhari reacted to the allegation, saying:
âHave you heard of the word cabal? People have been alleging that there are some few people in charge of this administration, that you are not the one in charge. Even your wife said something about this recently, what do you have to say about this?â the journalist reportedly asked him.
Translating the interview which was conducted in Hausa, The Cable reports that President Buhari responded to the question, saying:
âThatâs her business⊠This shows I am a real democrat⊠What they are saying is different from what is happening. They should come out and say those things they feel were staged managed by the cabal. What the cabal force me to do. They should mention just one thing.â
The president challenged others making the allegations that a cabal is in charge of his government to substantiate their claims.
Meanwhile, President Buhari has sent warm greetings to Nigerians, particularly Christians, as they celebrate Christmas, the birth of Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 25.
âI felicitate with all Nigerians, particularly our Christian brothers and sisters, on the joyous occasion of this yearâs Christmas, which commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ,â he wrote.
The president, however, acknowledged that 2018 was a year of mixed blessings.
While he joyously stated that Nigeria âhas made significant progress since coming out from recession and our faithful implementation of the Economic Recovery and Growth Planâ, he also lamented that the country witnessed âso many unnecessary deaths caused by violent clashes between neighbours, who ordinarily should complement and support one anotherâ.
