The police in Rivers State are investigating the motive behind the killing by one man of his four children before taking his own life.
Patrick Achibong, who hailed from Ugep in Cross River State, was said to have perpetrated the crime in Alesa, Eleme home of Nigeria’s petrochemical plant.
The ages of the children, three girls and a boy, could not be established, except that of the boy who was said to have been born after the family moved into the apartment last year.
The wife is believed to have taken flight after a heated argument and shortly before the man allegedly committed the offence. Achibong who also set the house on fire after allegedly killing the children was also reported to have hanged himself by the toilet.
It was not known at press time what caused the argument between the man and yet unnamed who was said to be a petty trader.
