The timely intervention of policemen has saved a woman from being hacked to death with a machete by her husband.
The incident happened at the couple’s home in Ibadan, Oyo State, yesterday.
The head Public Complaints Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU) of the police, Abayomi Shogunle, an Assistant Commissioner of Police, who shared the news on Twitter, withheld the identity of the couple.
Abayomi said a neighbour of the feuding couple alerted the police, after which a team was promptly dispatched to scene.
He said the wife was rescued and escorted to a safe location by policemen, while the husband was arrested for “threat to life”.
Shogunle also urged victims of domestic violence not to hesitate to call the police.
His tweet reads: “#DomesticViolence CALL PCRRU NOW. At about 1:10pm today, @PoliceNG_PCRRU received a distress call from Ibadan that a husband is threatening his wife with a machete in their house. A @PoliceNG team was immediately dispatched to the address and the situation brought under control.
“The fearful wife requested for police security to enable her move her belongings out of the house. She was provided protection accordingly and now at a safe place. Case of Threat to Life recorded against the husband and referred for investigation. Identities of parties withheld.”
