No fewer than nine persons died in an early morning road crash in Awo community in Irepodun/Ifelodun Council area of Ekiti State on Wednesday.
A lucky survivor among the 10 passengers in the bus, was said to have been rushed to an undisclosed hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The accident involved a commercial Toyota Hiace bus with registration number EKY 978 SJ and a DAF truck with registration number SB 404 FKA.
Although it could not be ascertained the destination of the commercial bus, sources said it was conveying passengers from Lagos to Abuja before the tragic event occurred.
It was said to have rammed into the truck which was conveying wood planks in its trailer.
Sources differ on the state of the DAF truck. While some said it was stationary when the accident happened, others said it was heading in the same direction with the bus which rammed into the trailer.
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesman in Ekiti State Command, Mr Muhammed Olowo, who confirmed the accident, said bodies of the deceased had been evacuated to Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti.
Olowo attributed the accident to over-speeding and loss of control.
The Police spokesperson for Ekiti State Command, Mr Caleb Ikechukwu, said the police swiftly moved in swiftly following the accident, adding that the survivor had been moved to hospital for treatment.
Ikechukwu said that the police had begun investigation into the cause of the accident.
