Ikere Ekiti, hometown of governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prof Kolapo Olusola Eleka, wore an eerie look of desertion today following the loss to the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi, in the yesterday election.
The once bubbling town that was basking in the euphoria of the possibility of producing the next governor yesterday, relapsed to forlorn mode as the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC declared the narrow loss of the PDP in the early hours of today.
Ikere today does not compare to a city nursing the ambition of having one of its sons occupying the state’s number one seat as all colourful posters of Eleka that once adorned the ancient town have given way, leaving that of Fayemi around the town.
The Campaign office of ‘Eleka 2018’ that used to be a beehive of activities till the early hours of today was also deserted as only one person was seen loitering around it with the doors flung open.
The town, known for celebrations and sundry social activities on weekend also wear a very sombre look with people on sight going about their activities quietly.
Eleka who is incumbent Deputy Governor in the state, led with 17,183 votes in Ikere Local Government while the APC trailed behind with 11,515 votes
