President Buhari Sends Delegation To Bauchi Over Windstorm, Market Fire

President Muhammadu Buhari has sent a Federal Government delegation, to be headed by the Minister of Education, Mr Adamu Adamu, to Bauchi State following a windstorm and fire incident that occurred in the state last weekend.

This was made known in a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu on Tuesday.

The statement also noted that eight persons have now been confirmed dead while 120 others had sustained various degrees of injury following the windstorm which lasted for over an hour on Saturday.

Also, an estimated 1,505 houses were destroyed mainly in the state capital.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, a fire disaster struck in another town, Azare, destroying a large portion of the market in the town.

The delegation which also includes the Director General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Engineer Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja is to undertake an assessment of the extent of damage occasioned by the natural disaster.

Also according to the statement, NEMA has started mobilising relief items from its warehouses located in Damaturu and Yola for onward distribution to those displaced by the windstorm.

The aid materials are expected to reach Bauchi today, Tuesday evening while the assessment is being conducted on the fire incident in Azare.

In an earlier message on Monday, President Buhari extended his deepest sympathies to the victims and families of devastating windstorm and the fire incidents.
