The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has again failed to appear before the Senate.
The IGP instead sent a Deputy Inspector General of Police on his behalf to brief the Senate.
Also, armed security operatives were strategically positioned at the National Assembly.
Displeased with the inability of the IGP to honour an earlier invitation by the Senate, the lawmakers had on April 26, slated today for his appearance.
His invitation to the Senate is to explain the alleged ill-treatment of Senator Dino Melaye as well as the persistent killings of Nigerians in Benue, Zamfara and Taraba states.
The Chairman Senate Committee on Police Affairs Senator Abu Ibrahim informed the Senate that the Police boss is on an official assignment in Birnin Gwari Kaduna state.
But Senate President Bukola Saraki condemned the action of the Police IG describing it as a threat to democracy.
The Senate has directed the Senate Leader and the Chairman of its committee on Police Affairs to liaise with the Executive over the matter and report back to the Senate.
