Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have commended the appointment of former Governor Bola Tinubu, to lead the reconciliation process of aggrieved members of the party.
Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, Rochas Okorocha (Imo State), revealed the position of the forum to reporters on Friday in Daura, the hometown of President Muhammadu Buhari in Katsina State.
He said, “One of the greatest things that he (Buhari) has done, that we commend him for, is the appointment of Asiwaju (Tinubu) as the chief reconciliator for the party.
“We saw that as a welcome development that would help to strengthen our party and make us stronger and better.”
President Buhari had on Tuesday last week appointed Mr Tinubu to resolve disagreements among APC members, party leadership and political office holders in the country.
Okorocha, who led some APC governors on a condolence visit to the President, also congratulated the Nigerian leader on the recovery of his son, Yusuf, after a bike accident in 2017.
Meanwhile, President Buhari held a closed-door meeting with the governor today, coming just one year to the February 16, 2019, date announced by INEC for the presidential election.
The Imo State Governor, however, insisted that: “What we have come for now is to commiserate with him over the loss of his two relatives.”
“I was able to bring in all the governors of APC to come together and we have decided to come to see him in a more relaxed atmosphere, to pay our condolences and congratulate him on what happened with Yusuf,” he added.
