Dalung Expels Two U-23 Players, Officials From Brazil

RIOThe Sports minister, Solomon Dalung has expelled two players and three official of the national U-23 team from the ongoing 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.

The affected players are Stanley Dimgba and goalkeeper Yusuf Mohammed as well as the team’s media officer, Timi Ebikagboro, curator and the team coordinator were sent packing from the games and flew out of Brazil to Nigeria on Monday night.

Dalung had previously complained about lack of funds to take care of allowance and hotel accommodation. It was reported that Mikel Obi at a point had to come to the rescue of the team by settling their hotels bill.

A source from the team confirmed that the ministry could not afford to continue to pay the five extra persons on the team.

‎”Yes,it is true that the curator, media officer as well as the two alternative players have been asked to go back to Nigeria,” said the source.

“The ministry can only take care of 18 players and seven officials. ‎The ministry cannot afford to be paying for extra rooms, feeding, allowances out of the 25 people that are supposed to make up the team to the Olympics.

“The aforementioned people have already left the team’s hotel‎ and are no longer with us.”
