The intervention of the former chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Anthony Anenih, dramatically stopped the Edo Central district of the PDP from adopting one of the leading governorship aspirants of the party and sending a wrong message.
Top PDP leaders in the zone had settled for the aspirant and had invited journalists to the occasion billed for Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area, last Tuesday until Chief Anenih asked them to stop the plan.
The former Works Minister was said to have warned the conveners of the meeting not to adopt any aspirant, saying the action could create division within the party. He advised those behind the move to go and vote for the aspirant of their choice on the day of the primaries as long as they are qualified delegates.
It was also gathered that another PDP governorship aspirant complained bitterly over the planned adoption and asked party leaders in the state to call the conveners to order. Chief Anenih, it was learnt wants a level playing ground for all the aspirants and would support any of them that emerged as the candidate of the party.
The intervention of Chief Anenih may go on to buttress assertions that the party hierarchy may have pulled back from their earlier plans of adopting a former close associate of Governor Oshiomhole as the PDP candidate.
The earlier plan was based on what observers had believed was the aspirant’s robust structure and capacity to fight the comrade governor with whom he bitterly fell apart with about three years ago. 30 0 2 0
