The much talked about N5000 stipend promised unemployed Nigerians by the All Progressives Congress (APC) has ended up a pipedream .
President Mohammadu Buhari made a dramatic U-turn at the weekend during his visit to the Middle East saying he prefers to empower youths through agriculture and build infrastructure than dole out money.
“This largesse N5,000 for the unemployed, I have got a slightly different priority. I would rather do the infrastructure, the school and correct them and empower agriculture, mining so that every able bodied person can go and get work instead of giving 5,000, N5,000 to those who don’t work,” he said.
During the presidential campaign the N5000 welfare package for unemployed youth was one the major promises of the APC
