Social Media Enthusiasts Storm National Assembly

SMAHundreds of Social Media Enthusiast on Tuesday stormed the national assembly complex over the “anti-social media bill” introduced by the deputy senate majority leader, Bala Na’ Allah .

The bill, which has passed second reading prescribed a two year jail term for anyone who makes a false allegations or comments about other people on social media.

A lot of Nigerians have kicked against the bill saying is anti- free speech. The protesters said the Senators were out to gag the press, something likened to Decree 4 of the past Military era, stressing that they would do everything they can to resist it.

Addressing the protesters, a senator representing Abia state, Enyinnaya Abaribe tried to calm the protesters by assuring them that the senate would look into their case but the protesters were adamant about their cause and kept on chanting solidarity songs.
