The Timipre Sylva Campaign Organisation has commended the delegates at the governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress held on Wednesday in Yenagoa for their overwhelming vote for the winner, Chief Timipre Sylva. The campaign team also applauded the peaceful conducts of both the delegates and aspirants throughout the process of the rescheduled primary.
The APC primary election to pick a candidate for the 5 December governorship poll in the state had been cancelled and rescheduled following disagreements over the first exercise conducted on 22 September, which was also won by Sylva.
The Timipre Sylva Campaign Organisation, in a statement in Yenagoa on Wednesday by Mr. Doifie Buokoribo, said, “We are extremely grateful to all the delegates for their votes, which earned Timipre Sylva victory at the primary election conducted Wednesday, 30 September. We thank all our supporters, the aspirants, and the entire APC family in Bayelsa State for your peaceful conduct during the course of the primary election.
“We are especially appreciative of your loyalty, not only to our candidate for the 5 December governorship election, Sylva, but also to the cause of progress for our state under an APC government.
“In the wake of the primary election’s rescheduling, we had sued for calm among our supporters and asked for a more massive turnout on the new election date to repeat the performance of 22 September and prove our detractors wrong. You heeded our call and not only repeated your overwhelming endorsement of Sylva’s candidacy, but in fact, topped it, from 726 votes at the 22 September polling to 981 on Wednesday.
“We thank Mr. Ndutimi Alaibe for his sportsmanlike steps to calm frayed nerves before the commencement of Wednesday’s exercise. His decision to withdraw from the race went a long way to ease some of the political tensions that had built during the previous voting.
“We have made a good start. But the successful choice of our governorship candidate, Sylva, is the beginning of a long haul to our desired occupation of Government House, Yenagoa, next year. We call on all the aspirants, their supporters, the whole APC family in the state, and, indeed, all lovers of Bayelsa’s progress to join us and rally round the party and our candidate in the historic task of salvaging the state from the yoke of incompetent and dishonest governance foisted on it by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“The responsibility to change the bad fortunes of Bayelsa State under the bondage of PDP is one that must be accomplished.”
