Boko Haram has released a new audio message through which its elusive leader Abubakar Shekau, dismissed recent victories by the military against the militant group. Shekau also called President Muhammadu Buhari , a liar deceiving the nation.
The 25-minute recording in Hausa and Arabic released on social media, with the voice purporting to be that of Shekau, said: “The military lied that they have confiscated our arms, that we have been chased out of our territories, that we are in disarray.
“We are alive, I am alive, this is my voice, more audible than it was before. This is Shekau. Buhari is a liar and he is deceiving you,” Shekau said.
Shekau had been declared dead by the soldiers before, only for Boko Haram to promptly release videos and audio messages to dispel the notion.
Colonel Sani Usman, acting director of army public relations, has assured the nation that the insurgency will be brought to an end before the three-month deadline given by President Buhari.
Shekau added: “Buhari, you once claimed that you will crush us in three months. How can you crush us?” He directly refers to IS group leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, to whom he says he is “loyal and subservient”.
He also mentioned ISS spokesman Abu-Mohammed al-Adnani and sent “greetings to the faithful in Yemen”, where there is also an IS “affiliate”.
