Following recent speculations in a report that there were several cases of cholera in Bakul, Dunmagari and Gallari, among others in Shira Local Government Area of Bauchi State, the state government has said that there are no such cases in the state.
Dr. Ahmed Fanti, Director, Bauchi State Disease Control, who spoke on the issue in a report on Wednesday, said that the speculation about Bakul, Dunmagari and Gallari, among others in Shira Local Government Area was false.
Fanti said the State Rapid Response Team was in the council area to investigate the purported outbreak of the disease but could not find a single patient that had the presumed case.
The director said that even the health officers could not confirm or identify any patient that had either been vomiting or had diarrhea in the local government.
He explained that the team was in the communities where the purported outbreak was reported for the whole day but could not get any specimen for test.
The director said, “There was no case of cholera in Shira as speculated by people; the state team was in the local government to get samples but no one could either vomit or pass stool that will be used as sample to carry out the test, which will confirm that the person has cholera.”
Fanti advised members of the public to desist from disseminating false information, especially now that people were about to be lifted for the holy pilgrimage.
