As part of the initiatives to promote youth empowerment and enterprise, First Bank of Nigeria Ltd, Nigeria’s most valuable banking brand, has thrown its weight behind the United Nations International Youth Day 2015.
The day which is celebrated globally on August 18, 2015 would be commemorated in Lagos Nigeria on August 31, 2015 at the main auditorium of the University of Lagos, Akoka.
The event themed, “Youth Civic Engagement: Promoting Civic Engagement and Participation of Youth in Politics and Public Life,” is organised by RISE Networks in collaboration with FirstBank.
In line with the accepted assertion that the youth segment of the population is critical to nation-building, there is the need to constantly engage and steer them in the right direction; providing adequate tutelage and empowerment that would create responsible leaders and a bright future for them and the nation.
Mrs Folake Ani-Mumuney, FirstBank’s spokesperson, in a statement, said cognisant of the importance of youth training and guidance, FirstBank has promoted several youth development programmes and initiatives as part of its corporate citizenship interventions towards nation-building.
Some of these initiatives include partnership with the Nigeria Leadership Initiative (NLI) in organising the Future Leaders Seminar to groom emerging leaders between 25-35 years and enhance their leadership skills, knowledge and confidence in preparation for them to assume a transformative role in the future development of Nigeria.
The Bank believes that youth engagement should begin from cradle and has developed several products and initiatives to guide the child from cradle to adulthood.
One of these initiatives is the FutureFirst programme designed to empower secondary school students between 12 to 17 years to build fulfilling careers and be better equipped with tools and knowledge for long term financial independence. The Bank has to date covered over 40 secondary schools across the country, impacting more than 20,000 students.
Ani-Mumuney said the bank would remain committed to driving youth empowerment to ensure a promising and secure future for the youth and the nation as a whole.
