The Kwara State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday denied involvement in the invitation sent to Mrs. Toyin Saraki, the wife of Senate President Bukola Saraki, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Toyin Saraki was last week invited by EFCC to appear before the anti-graft agency on Tuesday in connection with some contracts executed by companies allegedly linked to her and her husband when the Senate President was the Governor of Kwara State.
Mr. Iyiola Oyedepo, Chairman of the state PDP and Chief Rex Olawoye, Publicity Secretary, in a statement denied reports that the state branch of the party wrote a petition to EFCC against the ex-governor’s wife.
PDP said anyone who says the party was involved in Mrs. Saraki’s ordeal was politically-motivated and emanated from those who have scores to settle with the Senate President and his immediate family.
It said, “The attention of our party, PDP, Kwara State chapter, has been drawn to a report by an online medium and newspapers titled, ‘PDP claims responsibility for Toyin Saraki’s EFCC ordeal’, and credited to our spokesman, Chief Rex Olawoye.
“First, Kwara State PDP dissociates itself from the said publication. The publication is the handiwork of dubious, desperate, faceless and spineless individuals or groups, who are always in the mass and social media to malign character and damage their superiors in order to gain cheap popularity.
“We want to put it on record that Kwara PDP has never, at any time, written any petition against anybody in the state as far as the party is concerned. Kwara PDP has no hand in the imbroglio that is going on between the EFCC and Mrs. Toyin Saraki. We therefore emphatically state that all the statements credited to Kwara PDP are products and machinations of people who are disgruntled as well as spineless cowards.
“Kwara PDP views the publication credited to the party as politically motivated and emanating from those who have issues with the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and his immediate family.”
