Etsu Nupe and Chairman, Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has advised political officeholders in the country to always regard their position as a responsibility from God that should not be betrayed.
The royal father gave the advice at his Wadata Palace at the special Sallah Durbar (Sallah Barki Edir Fitr) to mark the end of Eid el Fitr celebration in his kingdom.
According to him, any position held by leaders is held in trust to the glory of God and must be held with the fear of God, adding, “your position is a trust from God; both elected and appointed political officeholders must strive to maintain it and work with the fear of God.”
Advising that leaders must be ready to serve the people diligently, the royal father said, “Such trust will be accounted for by anybody entrusted with leadership responsibilities; both leaders and the led would in the hereafter account for their worldly lives before the Almighty God.”
The Etsu Nupe also called on parents to pay attention to proper education and upbringing of their children to acquire both Western and religious education because “Educating children at early age would reduce anti-social tendencies among the youth and will enhance societal values.”
He said education is key to how youths can contribute to the socio-economic growth of the society and also fit into the society, to become good citizens and responsible leaders in future.
