The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III has called on Muslims to start looking out for the new moon of Shawwal on Thursday, which will signal the end of this year’s Ramadan fast.
Professor Sambo Junaidu, Chairman, Sultanate Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, said in a statement that Thursday, July 16, which would be equivalent to 29th day of Ramadan, 1436AH should be the day to look out for the new moon.
“Muslims are therefore requested to start looking for the new moon of Shawwal, 1436 on Thursday and report its sighting to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to the Sultan,” it said.
