IG petitioned to prosecute Senator caught beating woman at adult toy shop

A group of protesters led by activist Deji Adeyanju, has called on the Inspector General of Police, Adamu Muhammed to prosecute Senator Elisha Abbo, who was caught on camera assaulting a nursing mother in a sex shop in Abuja.

You can join us by 8am prompt tomorrow morning in solidarity as we submit a petition to the IGP against Senator Elisha Abbo. Meeting point: Total Filling Station, opposite Force Headquarters,” Adeyanju had tweeted on Tuesday.

On Wednesday morning, the protest went on as planned with the protesters meeting the police authorities to drop a petition where they called for the prosecution of Abbo.

The moment the senator representing Adamawa North Senatorial District was beating up a woman at a sex shop on May 1, about three months after he became a senator-elect and a month before he was sworn-in on June 11 was captured on camera and posted yesterday on social media where it has raked up thousands of views and sparked backlash for the 41-year-old senator.

According to Premium Times, which broke the story, Senator Abbo, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had entered the shop in company of three young women to purchase adult toys.

It said, trouble erupted when one of the three girls started throwing up, prompting the shopowner to remark that the woman should have vomited outside and not inside her shop, a comment Abbo took umbrage at, accusing her of causing the girl’s illness allegedly by poisoning the store’s air conditioner.

The senator went on to turn the shop owner’s friend, a nursing mother, who attempted to pacify him into a punching bag.
