Simon Lalong Wins Plateau Guber Election

The incumbent governor of Plateau State, and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Barrister Simon Bako Lalong, has retained his seat.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared Lalong winner of the Plateau State governorship election in the wee hours of Sunday, March 24, 2019.

He scored 595,582 votes to defeat his closest opponent, General Jeremiah Oseni of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, who scored 546, 813 votes.

Before INEC declared the March 9, 2019 governorship election inconclusive, Lalong had clinched 583, 255 votes while his septuagenarian challenger, Jeremiah Useni, a former military governor, and ex-Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, had 538,326 votes.

While declaring the March 9 polls inconclusive, the electoral umpire had ordered a re-run in nine local government areas of the state.
