Troops Arrest Female Suicide Bomber

A catastrophe that would have thrown Nigeria into deep mourning was averted, Tuesday, as troops of the Nigerian Army arrested an alleged female bomber in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Announcing the arrest via its twitter handle, the Army said the young lady, Shaidatu Adamu, 19, was nabbed at the Gonikalachari area of Borno State by troops of Operation Lafiya Dole, as she tried to detonate her suicide belt.

The suspected suicide bomber was reportedly stopped on her track as she headed to an unnamed location in the Maiduguri metropolis with the sole aim of blasting civilians to horrifying death and causing maximum damage.

Adamu’s suicide belt

Shaidatu Adamu, who claimed to hail from Gwoza, reportedly told military investigators that she had been living with Boko Haram insurgents for the past three years; adding that the group sent her to carry out a lone mission.

Confirming the arrest on its twitter handle, the Army said; “Troops have arrested a female suicide bomber at Gonikalachari. The troops arrested the teenager, who attempted to infiltrate Maiduguri to detonate her suicide vest and inflict maximum casualties on Nigerians.

“Upon interrogation, she said she was sent on a lone mission. She confessed that she had been in the Sambisa forest for about three years.

“Consequently, troops from the 47 Explosive Ordinance Device Battalion were invited to defuse the explosives. She has been transferred to the 7 Military Intelligence Brigade, Maiduguri, for further investigation.”
