I’m Still Available For Super Eagles Selection, says Mikel

Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi, says he’s still available for selection despite the team’s ouster from the World Cup.

Nigeria failed to qualify for the knockout stage after a 2-1 loss to Argentina in Saint Petersburg on Tuesday.

However, the former Chelsea midfielder is not ready to hang his international boot and believes the young and upcoming stars will “perform much better” in future.

Mikel spoke to TheCable about all the talking points of the game.

“I will always be available to play for the Super Eagles,” he said.

“We were so close to going through. I hope in the next one year this young team will perform much better. Messi had his moment but he was much quiet. They have amazing players. We played our best, had our lion share of possession. It was very painful to go out.

“The second penalty that the referee didn’t give is painful. I asked the referee why he didn’t give the penalty he said he didn’t know. I have nothing to say about it about the VAR. I was so sad.

“We got so close to defeating them. We gave them a great fight. Argentina will approach their next match with less pressure. We really performed well. Kudos to the boys. Ighalo is an experienced player, he came on in the second half and looked threatening. He will come back stronger.”

Nigeria have only qualified for the round of 16 three times in six World Cups.
