Ex-soldier arrested for illegal arms deal

The police in Niger State have arrested an ex-soldier, Mustapha Gana, of Shikpa Bosso in Bosso Local Government Area for dealing in illegal arms.

It was learnt that the suspect was trailed and arrested by a team of policemen on patrol, which acted on a tip-off.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, disclosed this to Northern City News on Thursday in his office in Minna, Niger State.

The spokesman said the command recovered two English pump action guns, four locally-made single-barreled guns, three locally-made revolver pistols and 94 expanded cartridges.

Elkana said police operatives also intercepted and arrested one Mohammed Tukur of Kampanin Waya in Kontagora local council.

According to him, the suspect was arrested for unlawful possession of firearms which he said is against the law.

He said the suspect was intercepted and arrested at Bakar Gada Bridge along Tegina-Lagos road, adding that one locally-made pistol was recovered from him.

Elian’s said, “Police would no longer tolerate unlawful possession of firearms in this state and we warn people to desist or face the wrath of the law.”
