Yenagoa, the Capital of Bayelsa State was in total lock-down today as All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains stormed the city for the Grand Finale of the party’s campaign for the governorship election schedule to hold on December 5.
As early as 8 am, party loyalists don in Sylva campaign colours trooped in to the Samson Siasia Sports Complex venue of the event. By noon, it became a thug of war gaining entrance to the venue which was already filled to capacity.
One of the high point of the rally was the defection of seven senior members of the incumbent, Governor Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cabinet, to the APC.
Those received by the APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun included two commissioners; Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Surveyor Furoebi Akeni and Commissioner for Science and Technology , Hon. Indutimi Komonibo.
Others included Chairman Ogbia Local Government, which is the local government of the former President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr Enaye Abah, and three other Special Advisers.
Oyegun commended Bayelsa people for the love they have shown to the APC, saying, “the entire APC is here because we value Bayelsa state.”
In his address, APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu said it was time for Bayelsa people to vote for good governance. He asked the people to vote en-mass on Saturday and “be patient to monitor and defend their votes.”
Governor Adams Oshiomole of Edo State assured that the APC has a good message and a better messenger. He expressed confidence in the ability of Sylva in turning around the fortune of Bayelsa state.
Oshiomole asked : “For 16 years you have remained under the umbrella. This is one of the most endowed state, looking back and with the resources that have accrued to the state do you want business as usual?”
The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, who represented President Muhammadu Buhari said the APC has brought peace and prosperity to Bayelsa state.
“I bring you a message from the President which is: the time for change has come. The time for good governance and prosperity has come, don’t miss the train,” the Vice President said.
The APC flag-bearer in the state, Chief Timipre Sylva said he was humbled by the mammoth crowd that trooped in for the rally. He promised people-focused development.
“Now is time for action, it is time to claim back our state from the tight fist of poverty and underdevelopment, The development of Bayelsa cannot take place at the expense of the people.
“The people of Bayelsa must be developed and empowered. We will develop infrastructure and we will develop the people of Bayelsa.
“On Saturday, Pharaoh will fall and the Egyptian you see today will be under the red sea, Sylva said.
